The Ultimate Guide To Already Been Vaped (ABV) CannabisCBD Village
One of my favourite things about vaporisers is how they allow you to reuse cannabis bud that has already been vaped (ABV). CBD can be consumed in a number of ways, from CBD Tea to CBD Coffee or even using Balms.
It’s a creative way to use bud sustainably. I’ve written several previous guides on how to use ABV. So, thanks to their popularity I’ve decided to create a more in-depth guide to ABV to answer some basic questions for readers. First off, here’s some handy links to my existing guides on making things with ABV:
- Make Cannaoil using ABV
- Create ABV capsules
- Make an ABV sandwich
Q: How strong is my ABV? Is there any way to tell?
A: The strength of your ABV will vary tremendously. It depends on several factors. Firstly, there’s the temperature you vape at (higher temperatures produce weaker ABV) as well as how evenly your device cooks your herb. Your style of inhalation may also affect the ABV strength. Slower drags extract more psychoactive material. As a general rule of thumb, the darker your ABV, the weaker it will be, and in my experience, it’s not worth saving ABV which is very dark brown or almost black. this means it generally contains almost no psychoactive components.
Q: Can I eat ABV straight and will it get me high?
A: Yes, you can! Normally when you make edibles with fresh cannabis, it must be decarboxcylated (heated for a little while) in order to convert THCA into the psychoactive THC which gives you a buzz. However, since ABV is cannabis that has already been heated, it will be decarboxylated and thus ready for use.
Q: How can I tell how much ABV to use? Is there a baseline amount which will give me a buzz?
A: This is a difficult question to answer, as it really depends on your ABV, metabolism, and tolerance. In my experience, I usually start to notice a buzz if I consume about 2 grams of very light (yellow with a bit of light green) ABV. It usually also comes on stronger if I vape a bowl about twenty to thirty minutes after ingestion. Normally when I’m making something like cannaoil, I use 3-6 times the amount of fresh bud I would use depending on how dark my ABV is.
Q: How does an ABV buzz compare to regular cannabis?
A: I find that ABV usually tends to produce a relaxed body high rather than an energetic mind high. Just the right amount of ABV makes me sleepy and helps soothe any sore muscles that I have. ABV contains more CBD than THC, and the higher CBD content creates a state of relaxation and sedation. I find that the high lasts for 4-6 hours (sometimes up to 8 using a lot of ABV), and vaping a bowl usually increases the effects and prolongs them for a little while longer. If you are not looking to get high but still enjoy the benefits of cannabis then I would suggest a CBD tincture which the UK had been going crazy for.

Q: Eating ABV Capsules gives me an upset stomach!
A: This has happened to me on a few occasions early on. I realised it was because I was eating the capsules on an empty stomach. This made it harder to digest the ABV. Nowadays I make sure to eat a light snack beforehand (such as yoghurt) and I haven’t run into any issues since!
Well, there you have it! This guide should hopefully help you understand ABV a little better as well as how to use it effectively. Also, always remember to dose low the first time that you try out a new batch. Edibles can be quite potent, especially for those with low tolerances. If you have any other questions regarding ABV, feel free to ask them in the comments and I’ll try my best to come up with an answer!
Q: So much talk about eating! Can I just smoke my AVB?
A: Technically you can (I’ve done so a few times in the past). However, the taste is horrible and even a large joint of AVB only gives you a mild body buzz. Therefore I don’t recommend it. I do however have a few friends who are quitting cigarette smoking, and they’ve been having good results using AVB in place of tobacco in their spliffs. It still doesn’t taste as good as vaping fresh bud, but it does help to conserve your cannabis while at the same time cutting down on tobacco!
