Canadian actor and comedian Seth Rogen has become closely linked with cannabis culture as a result of his outspoken and care-free attitude toward smoking it; in his personal life and in his films. However, what many don’t realise is that Seth Rogen has become a strict advocate for the use of marijuana medicinally for numerous conditions – and his education and lobbying on the subject has even resulted in him attending congress to challenge leaders on existing CBD law!
In particular, Rogen’s passion circulates around the legalization of CBD for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia; whereby the brain’s functions decline over time. Patients offer suffer from memory issues, difficulty learning new skills, problems with speech, language and expression, delusions, and drastic personality changes. Rogen’s mother-in-law, Adele Miller, had an early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, and so he saw first-hand the way in which the illness changed her and left her unable to care for herself.
Appearing in congress in 2014, Rogen documented these changes and the impact the disease had had on his family’s life, as well arguing in support of legislation to increase federal funding for care and research into Alzheimer’s disease; including that of research specifically into CBD. Lending his high profile to the cause was considered hugely beneficial, and allowed his speech to make headlines worldwide where on a normal basis it likely wouldn’t have been documented outside of official congress administration.
Frustratingly, Rogen found himself speaking to a near-empty hall of seats – with 16 representatives having not showed up or walking out mid-way through this speech. As a result, Rogen took to US TV to call out by name those 16 politicians and explain how harmful such indifference toward the cause can be.
Despite this setback in his speech, Rogen’s drive and latter TV appearance made headlines around the globe and drew a great deal of attention to the CBD law surrounding medical marijuana being used across the United States to treat conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Today, Rogen remains an advocate of CBD law being updated for medicinal purposes, but also for full adult-use legalization in the US. He is now a member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, and remains one of their most high-profile members. On a more productive and focused note, he has also founded the non-profit Hilarity for Charity alongside his wife, which researches into treatments and care for Alzheimer’s disease sufferers, including the use of CBD oil and related products as a treatment management tool.
Having dedicated a good chunk of his adult life to advocating CBD use, Seth Rogen remains an inspiration to those suffering and looking for some respite, no matter what their condition or illness. The Hilarity for Charity foundation continues to grow, and they’re always looking for volunteers: so if you’re interested, get in touch with them for more info.
