The creation of CBD oil Charlotte’s Web comes from the story of a little girl suffering from Dravet Syndrome.
Dravet Syndrome is a type of epilepsy, otherwise known as Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy of Infancy. It is rare and incurable. It has been noted that the onset of Dravet Syndrome occurs around 6 months of age. Infants that suffer from it typically develop other forms of seizures. It is the second year of the child’s life where parents will notice a decline and they will develop other types of conditions too. Unexplained death is a common result of Dravet Syndrome.
Charlotte Figi had her very first seizure at three months of age. It lasted approximately thirty minutes. As she grew older, the severity and frequency of her seizures increased, even to the point of suffering multiple seizures per day. By the time she was two years old, she began showing signs of autistic type behaviour and severe cognitive decline. She was aggressive, clumsy and could not make eye contact. By the time she was three years old, she was wheelchair bound, unable to eat and could not speak.
It was only then that she was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome. There was no sign of improvement after various medical treatments and by the time she was five years old, Charlotte suffered tremendously with hundreds of grand mal seizures and heart failure. Eventually, she was placed in a medically induced coma.
After doctors claimed to be out of options, Charlotte’s grandfather began researching. He found evidence of parents using cannabis as a treatment for their children and many claimed successes. With nothing to lose, Charlotte’s parents tried cannabis oil which yielded immediate results in the first week. She went from hundreds of seizures to virtually none. Happy with the results, Charlotte’s parents went in search of cannabis oil producers who would be able to supply large doses.
They found the Stanley brothers, medical cannabis growers and dispensers based in Colorado. They had created a unique hybrid of industrial hemp extract oil and low-level THC cannabis. This was ideal for children because of its low THC content. It was so effective with Charlotte’s treatment that they labelled the CBD oil Charlotte’s Web. As word got out on the success of CBD oil Charlotte’s Web, more parents began turning to it as a treatment for their children. Many families are even moving to locations where the use of medical cannabis is legal, and more and more doctors are legitimizing it, especially Charlotte’s Web, as a viable treatment option.
Oils such as Charlotte’s Web have been proven to be beneficial for various medical conditions because of how it affects the body. Various other types of epilepsy, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and anxiety disorders are just some of the conditions that have seen significant results when treated with CBD. While sceptics worry about it being appropriate for children, there are actually no psychoactive effects making it perfect for them.
